In February 2020, Canada became the main source of imports for the United States, importing a total of 150,000 tons of aluminum production, including 145,000 tons of crude metals, aluminum alloys and 5,300 tons of scrap aluminum. US aluminum output from China fell to 5,070 tons, down 15,600 tons from the same period last year. The amount of scrap aluminum imported by the United States from Mexico plummeted by 86% to only 8,520 tons.
Imports have decreased, but exports have been relatively stable.
In February 2020, the United States exported a total of 236,000 tons of aluminum products and aluminum scrap, which was only 0.4 million tons lower than the same period in previous years. The main exporters were Mexico, Canada and India.
